Prezidan Topson
Nelson Petion better known by his stage name''TOPSON''is a Haitian Rapper well known in the Rap Kreyol industry.
Nelson Petion better known as "Topson" was born in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti. Like most entertainers, his musical career began at a very young age. In school, 7 year old Topson was frequently punished because he had always put on a show, rapping while his classmates were drumming on the table. Since then, his classmates saw him as one of the rising star in the Rap Kreyol movement, pursuing the path of one the greatest Haitian rapper, his role model, Master Dji.
By the time he was 12 years old, he had already made a name for himself in the streets and was nicknamed "No Mercy" given that he had no mercy for his opponents at freestyle battles. Topson recorded and release his first song called "Mwen Reve Haiti Chanje" at 16. Though it wasn't a huge hit, “Mwen Reve Haiti Chanje” proved Topson's status as one of the most promising lyricists among families and friends. After many collaborations with local artists, he formed Sinai B.E.S.E, a local rap group that got a lot attention from the media. With the buzz he created, he got an invitation to join a more popular rap group called Legion-Clan who released a single with Topson called "Okay". "Okay" became an instant hit and also helped push Rap Kreyol into new frontiers where it became appreciated by a lot of people, especially the female fans.
Unfortunately, Topson moved to the United States but kept in touch with his band-mates. Eager to pursue his musical career, the young rapper decided to leave New Jersey and moved to New York hoping to find a producer. Topson would not regret what he did. There he met The Core, a production team which consist of the twin brothers Willy "Wyll" & William Mitial and Mack Damis (Mack Productions). The Core is credited as one the best production teams in the industry and having worked with many Rap Kreyol artists they knew that Topson was exactly what it needed. With these innovative opportunities, he put the focus on his music again and revive his dream of becoming like his role model.
The first Topson’s official single is “Pasyans” which was released on June 01, 2010. Over a production of The Core which sampled Beken's "Chache Lavi Detwi Lavi", Topson strives to inspire his fans. Fantom also delivered, with lines such as "kokorat yo te banm non pou tet yon pantalon pyese/ Jou pam nan gen pou l rive nou met believe nan mwen mesye" making this song one of Rap Kreyol's best motivated song ever. He has won many achievements including a Rap Forum Grammy for Best Freestyle in 2006 and Legion-Clan was nominated for Best Rap Group in 2007. Topson is well known in the Rap Kreyol industry in Haiti and also abroad. His first solo album is in the works and it will be available soon.
