About
Occupy south Jersey is organized by local south Jersey residents in particular Jaime Bowen and Georgina Shanley of Ocean City.
The impetus for the action is the complete disenfranchisement of the ordinary people of America the economic and political arena. We are not being heard and to add insult to injury we are being forced to bail out the bankers, insurance companies, financial institutions and yet no one is bailing us out! They are still making profits and getting bonuses and, we, at the bottom are losing jobs and have no health care. Young men and women are dying alone in Iraq and Afghanistan for what?? And so many are committing suicide on their return. Too many lives lost for oil and profit. Too many families destroyed.
No one is taking responsibility and even after the recent major financial failure nothing has changed. No one is accountable. We, the people, are being held to different standards; different rules and we have to pay for the fat cats. This is the "survival of the richest" which is anathema to the American concept of equality and justice for all..
Our goal is to raise our voices, raise consciousness, empower our neighbors and shift the political paradigm in favor of the hard-working people of south Jersey.
Occupy South Jersey began with a single step, which was protesting for human need and not corporate greed outside of a local Bank of America which is an icon for what is wrong with our system. At the core is the influence of money on our politicians and our laws. We have to get the corrupting element of big money out of our election system. Locally, we have a coal plant that is spewing toxic fumes throughout the area and into our water. People are losing jobs and homes in Atlantic County, Cape May County, Cumberland and more.... and 1/3rd of our children are going to bed hungry. Its just not acceptable.
Our first protest was outside of Bank of America and it was a big success. We ask that you join us in speaking up for you, your grandparents, mother, sister, brother, kids and friends. Stand up for your rights and eventually they will listen..its just too big to ignore.
